CHA Mega Show 2015 - Part Two

Following on from yesterday! After my first tour of the show, it was time to head off to a party! Create & Craft were launching Create & Craft USA with a cocktail night and I popped along to hear all about it and catch up with some friends!
As I had to be up early the following morning for the Designer Section Meeting I sneaked out a little bit early and head back to my room with a big bottle of Gatorade (all the aircon and talking means you pretty soon lose your voice!) I had to take a picture of the label of my bottle of Gatorade fruit punch - notice NO actual fruit juice in that giant bottle of Fruit Punch - I LOVE America!
The following morning I headed off to the Designer Section meeting with Craig from CHA UK to see what the Designers from CHA do in America, I met some great people and it was so interesting to see how it works in the US - we're only just starting to implement our Designer section here in the UK - exciting times!!
*exciting news alert* I then had a meeting with one of my favourite companies in the scrapbooking industry, this has been planned for a while and I was super nervous and excited - I can't say anything just yet as it's very early days but what I will tell you is that the people I met with said that they thought I was 'extremely talented' and have asked me to put together some sample ranges for them!!! It's super early days but I'm so excited to have this opportunity - watch this space!! I was then a tiny bit naughty and before my next meeting of the day I decided to celebrate this good news, I headed back to my hotel room, put my PJ's on, turned the aircon up full blast (did I mention I like VERY cold rooms?) and ordered myself a proper American burger, fries and a shake from room service...

I then spent the next hour in bed watching a basketball game and devouring it - and YES, it was AMAZE!!! I'd fly back just for that burger...

Anywhoo... after making myself look human again, I head back to the show and my next meeting of the day with DCWV, we spent some time going through the new products before I was gifted a lovely box of goodies (so lucky!) My absolute fave was these mirror icons, expect to see them on my blog very soon!!
I then managed a quick trip to get some cheesy souvenirs before afternoon tea at the CHA International pavilion - it's very difficult to get a good cup of Earl Grey in the US so I made sure I was at that pavilion every afternoon at 3pm sharp for my two cups of earl grey! and some networking of course...

After the excitement of the day I took a minute, as it was my last night in L.A., to spend some time sitting in the warm evening breeze watching the waterfall outside the convention centre...
That was where my friend, mentor and fellow CHA UK Board Director, Carolyn, found me half an hour later, she invited me to dinner with some fabulous girls and we hit a wonderful restaurant just up the road from our hotels that had the most wonderful pie! (and spicy shrimp and avocado salad - yum!) I almost finished this one - it's so hard to finish a meal there!
Then came probably the BEST bit of my whole trip (and I'm only half joking) the girls, all Americans, couldn't believe I'd never been to Target, so they took me across the parking lot to this huge Target store, it was AMAZE! I did go a bit 'supermarket sweep' in there, put it this way, the giant suitcase I bought especially for the trip was overweight on the way home and I only JUST had room for everything I brought back - it was love!
The following morning I had just enough time to go and do my seminar on Creative Blogging, it was so fun to get to speak to an amazing group of ladies and I got SO much fabulous feedback on my talk that I was over the moon, one lady even said it was the best seminar she had been too - and it was only my second time! eeek! so fun! Then I had just enough time to go and say a quick goodbye to everyone before hopping on a shuttle back to the airport and another 11 hour flight back to London.

I so LOVED my trip, I can't wait to go back and until then, I brought back this little piece of America...
Thank you for dropping by today!

La Fourmi Coaster Book

Hi Everyone

Big thank you to everyone that tuned in to the La Fourmi Create & Craft shows at the weekend, I've had so much great feedback from them and some questions that I will try my best to answer over the next week or so.

The most popular thing people have been asking me for is pictures of the Memory Book (The Adventures of Fuzzybutt) that I made from the coaster set, so here are a couple of pics for you...
The box is covered in Kaisercraft paper (also from the show) and I attached one of the coasters to the front (once they were embellished, there wasn't room for all of them in the box) the coasters were all painted white and had circles of paper from the same Kaisercraft collection on each side before being embellished.
The coasters were all decorated with Instagram pictures front and back to tell a story.

I'm so glad you liked this little sample, I tried to look for an alternative way to use them and make them a little more interesting!

Thank you for all of your lovely support and feedback, I will get to everyones questions here on my blog (and maybe over on YouTube) if you have any others to add, please just leave them here in the comments and I'll add them in! Lots of you have asked when I'm back, I should have some more dates and times for you soon.

Thank you for dropping by today!

Create & Craft 'Craft Clinic' Scrapbook Page

As promised, today I'm posting a picture of the Scrapbook page I made on yesterdays Craft Clinic show, this was made following the sketch in my previous post...

Here is a little close up... For this I used the Graphic 45 Typography range (available on the Create & Craft website)
I generally don't scrap in such dark colours so I paired them with a white background to lift the colour and make the overall layout brighter and less vintage looking. As you saw on the show, I placed my first photo wrongly (the one on the right is too high) so I made up the lost space with the metallic banner. I still have to add my journaling which I will probably do on the bottoms of each picture.

Thank you to everyone who tuned in yesterday and for your fabulous feedback, I'm so glad you enjoyed the show!

Thank you for dropping by today

Hot Foiling with Letraset

Today I'm sharing one of the scrapbook pages you may have seen in my recent Create & Craft shows, this one features lots and lots of foiling!
I've foiled onto tracing paper (as an alternative to vellum, I ran out!) to create the chevron backing paper. The title scrabble tiles are also all foiled and attached with Pinflair so I could layer them over each other. I've used a splatter of My Hueys white ink spray on my background paper (from American Crafts) and accented with gold foiled stars, enamel dots and gold sequins. The gold journaling card is one of my own designs and also foiled (you can get this in the freebie kit I posted last week) here are a couple of close ups...

Now I'm off, I'm leaving the hairy peeps to their own devices for two days and paying a flying visit to my 'rents and sisters, I will of course be tweeting still - you don't get rid of me that easily! ;o)

Thank you for dropping by today!

Letraset Hot Foil machine FAQ's

Firstly, a massive thank you to everyone who tuned in to the shows on Ideal World and Create & Craft with the Hot Foil Machine as Pick of the Day, we had another great response to it and I've had lots and lots of emails during and since the shows, a lot of them are the same so I thought it would be easier to answer everything here in one post...

What Printer do you use?

I have a HP Laserjet 1020 - it's quite old now (though still works a treat!) and takes card up to 250gsm, I'm not sure if you can still find this model but there will probably be an updated version of it, I was lucky enough to find mine on sale for about £65 when I bought it a few years ago

What can I foil onto?

Anything smooth basically that will go through your printer! I've used a mixture of the Super Smooth paper and card that was on the show, some Craftwork Cards card and some printer paper. I also tried heat resistant acetate (Available from Crafters Companion and Cardcraft Plus) and Vellum (and then tracing paper when that ran out!)

What Type of Printer do I need?

You need a laser printer - one that takes toner rather than ink, you usually find these in offices (as the toner lasts much longer than ink, I only replace mine 2-3 times per year) or you can photocopy on a toner based photocopier (like those found in offices, repro places, libraries and some sweet shops etc...) the 3 in 1 type desktop printer / scanner / copiers will not work with this as your output would still be in ink and not toner

Can I find the machine elsewhere?

No, the machine is exclusive to Create & Craft / Ideal World and made specially for them at this time, once it sells out it takes a few months to bring it back for them

Can you use other foils in the machine?

I haven't tried to be honest with you, this was the first foiling machine I had, before that I only used the glue and foil type kits but I'm fairly sure (as was Leonie) that there is no reason why not as the make up should be fairly similar, either way - it can't hurt to try! and if you do, I'd love to know! :o)

How do I use Safmat?

The Safmat in your starter kit is a clear adhesive backed material for you to create your own stickers, particularly handy for adding things to patterned paper / 3D objects etc... just print with a laser printer as before and run through the filing machine exactly as you would with paper / acetate etc...

I hope that these answers help and if you have any other questions, please do leave them for me and I will do my very best to answer them for you. I hope if you got one on the day that you love it as much as I do!

I will also be posting up some of the projects I've made with the foiling machine later next week so keep an eye out for those.

Thank you for dropping by today!

This fab service from Bazzill matches up your favourite paper ranges with coordinating Bazzill cardstock, really handy if you order online like I do and can't actually see it in person. Darker Hair & Skin Tones with Promarkers

Today I'm sharing another of my Create & Craft show makes, this time the little ladybug card where I showed how to do darker hair and skintones, for this I used the Skintones 2 and Neutrals Promarker and Flexmarker sets.
The stamp is another of the Little Darlings range I've been showing on Create & Craft. the backing paper was actually an old one I've had for about 8 years and was in my 'to recycle' pile I saved it just in the nick of time as it was perfect for this card! Here are a couple of close ups to show you the colouring in detail... (you can click to make them bigger)
I'm often asked how I stop my black hair colouring looking grey - the trick is to use a hint of brown in the shadowy areas, here I started with Walnut and then layered Black and Dark Grey 4 and 5 over the top.

I've been very busy here at Hurley HQ this week working on lots of new exciting products and some things I will be telling you about VERY soon! I have also been organising and photographing all my new kit packaging, now my sewing kits match my card making and memory journal kits, what do you think?
Thank you for dropping by today!

Create & Craft Show Recap - Flexmarker Denim Effect

Firstly, a big 'Thank You' to everyone who watched my Create & Craft show today and those that took the time to email in or leave me messages on Twitter / Facebook etc... it really does mean so much to get that feedback from you all so thank you!

I wanted to post a quick recap of todays demo so you had to hand the card as a reference and a list of the colours used, so firstly, here is the card I made using the Little Darlings Lili Anna Stamp and Flexmarkers to colour her in...
The flexmarkers I used are as follows:

For the Jeans - Navy Blue, Cadet Blue, Cool Grey 1, Soft Green and Linen (the soft green and linen are for adding the texture to the denim.

For the Hair and Boots - Burnt Sienna, Saddle Brown, Nutmeg, Light Fawn

For the Skintone - Nutmeg, Tea Rose, Light Fawn & Satin

For the Top - Red Violet, Vermillion, Cool Grey 5

For the Hair Bow & Eyes - Moss, Cool Grey 4

Here are a couple of close ups for you... (you can click on each one to make it bigger)
If you have a go of this technique, I'd love to see and maybe share some pics on a future show so please leave me your links here or over on my Facebook page.

I hope you have a fun crafty weekend planed, I have a lot of work to do - I'm working on some very exciting projects right now and I can't wait to share some more. Thank you to everyone who has ordered Stamp & Stitch! and Stitch & Doodle! (see previous post if you missed them!) - they have proved to be massively popular and I will have more designs for you soon :o)

Thank you for dropping by today!
